Our clients new home is a shoreline residence on San Juan Island Washington. They wanted us to design and renovate their c.1960's Cabin to be an updated open floor plan which captured the views - and created an indoor - outdoor house for entertaining. They originally directed the design aesthetic to be more rustic outdoor kitchen like but mid way through the project they decided they wanted something much more contemporary with a mix of eclectic and modern touches. We made the pivot and this picture tells the story of exactly what they had wanted to create; a cozy and beautifully designed interior with connection to nature. Due to this homes proximity to the shoreline, I designed a color pallet which blended and complimented the Pacific Northwest landscape. We chose surface materials in varying shades of black, white and gray as a base. The adjacent patio is also finished in the same slate porcelain pavers as the interior tiled floors - so there is a seamless visual connection to the outdoors. This also created an extension of the interior space. The secondary color pallet is in shades of yellow, gold, orange and blue to mimic the colors of the sunrise and sunsets that are so beautiful on the waterfront in the San Juan Islands. Then to connect and anchor the entire space, we chose warm walnut wood casework throughout and soft gray furnishings with raw metal accents to bring it all together.
Our client is very happy with the final outcome of their renovated home and look forward to many parties with friends and family for years to come.
