Our client purchased a lot overlooking Jacksons Beach on San Juan Island. They wanted a contemporary home designed to sit naturally at elevation which capture the views but also created a bit of privacy in a suburban neighborhood. Not blocking the adjacent neighbors views was also a consideration during the design process. We shote the grade elevations and came upon the perfect elevation which the home would sit to their satisfaction. The home is a typical modern clerestory design which brought natural light through the main hall which spans the house. The home design took into great consideration their use and need to have a creative work space, guest quarters and a master suite, as well as wall areas and lighting in which their eclectic Art Collection would be displayed. Custom designed built-in casework and a functional small chef’s kitchen and dining area for entertaining brought unity to form and function. Space planning is a major challenge in a small foot print with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, so detailed designs for casework, furniture, and fixtures to scale was carefully considered.
